Joseph B. Purcell is a Greater Philadelphia-based multimedia producer. He’s curated live events featuring artists from across the United States and beyond while cultivating a notable body of work featuring music videos, albums and other assorted forms of media.

Studying at both Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Goldsmiths University in London, England, Joseph B. Purcell has amassed skills within the realm of video production, editing, graphic design, art direction, public relations, event coordination and artist management. Along with producing his own notable body of work, Joseph has taken pride in working with other artists as an attempt to help them flourish and grow.

 

Projects

 

Along with working on a freelance basis, Joseph B. Purcell is also responsible for founding Utica Records - his own boutique independent music label - in 2015 with the intention of creating a springboard towards success for his circle of fellow creators. Since its inception, the imprint has gone on to put out several releases with artists spanning multiple genres, hosted memorable live events and garnered online/radio coverage worldwide.

Joseph B. Purcell also performs in several bands including The Ricos, Petrified Corpse, Motel6, and Swan Club.

ZekeUltra - “Whole Step” (Music Video)

Along with producing the well-received music video for Delaware-based recording artist ZekeUltra’s “Whole Step,” Joseph B. Purcell was partly responsible for turning the young emcee onto Northern England’s own Home Assembly Music. On March 20th 2020, the West Yorkshire-based independent record label went on to release ZekeUltra’s (The Power Of) The Will Of Man mixtape on multiple vinyl variants; Joseph not only directed/edited the “Whole Step” video but handled most of the public relations/promotion overseas as well.

Fresh Air - “Feel” (via The Front)

In 2015, Joseph B. Purcell saw New Jersey-based recording artist Fresh Air’s debut full-length mixtape The Front as an opportunity to delve into the fulfilling world of art direction. Along with crafting the release artwork with the help of local photographer Nick Vespe, Joseph was responsible for helping share this release with a larger audience; the mixtape later regained popularity (with this track specifically going somewhat viral on YouTube) when it was featured in a well-clicked Rap Genius article.

THE RICOS - “What Comes Next?” (Music Video)

What Comes Next? is the latest release from the Philadelphia-based alternative rock band known as THE RICOS. Since 2013, Joseph B. Purcell has acted as the chief-songwriter for the group while also performing guitar/vocals; the band also features Connor Wynne and Daniel Fisk-Kallish on bass and drums respectively.

Executive produced by Joseph B. Purcell, the latest release from THE RICOS may be their most fully-realized to date. With the help of Tom Kelly (drummer for Alex G) and Kieran Ferris (bassist for Joy Again) behind the mixing board, the EP - released on December 4th 2020 - went on to receive some critical acclaim in both the United States and United Kingdom.

During the tail-end of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, THE RICOS partnered with Drexel University’s own WKDU to produce an interview/live session featuring an acoustic rendition of What Comes Next?’s introspective bonus track “Brand New Memory;” the performance features special guest Jane O’Malley on violin.
